Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) has been honored with an official certificate from the Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, recognizing the college’s innovation and leadership in integrating chemical and refining process technician skill standards into its Process Operating Technology Associate of Applied Science program.

The program is recognized by the Texas Workforce Investment Council for aligning curriculum with industry-defined standards that prepare students for success in the workforce. Process Operating Technology Instructor Brian Parrack completed the requirements necessary for the program’s recognition.

In a letter to the college, Charlene Hamilton, Skills Standards Administrator for the Texas Workforce Investment Council, commended LIT’s commitment to workforce readiness.

“Thank you and your staff for your continued work and commitment to teaching and assessing industry-defined standards,” Hamilton stated in the letter. “I wish your college ongoing success as you prepare the current and future workforce of Texas to compete in today’s local economy.”

The recognition highlights the college’s role in preparing students to meet industry demands, while contributing to the state’s economic strength.

“By building curricula around Texas-recognized industry standards, you prepare the next generation to meet the most demanding challenges facing our people, and your impact therefore extends far beyond the walls of the classroom,” the recognition states.

“Being recognized by Governor Abbott and the Texas Workforce Investment Council affirms the meaningful work happening every day at LIT,” said LIT President Dr. Sid Valentine. “By aligning our programs with industry-recognized standards, we are ensuring our graduates are job-ready and equipped to lead in high-demand sectors like refining and chemical processing. It reflects our commitment to serving both our students and the workforce needs of Texas.”
