Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) invites the community to a holiday tree lighting event, sponsored by Entergy, from 5-7 p.m. December 1. The event will be held in the quad area in front of the Cecil Beeson Building, located at 855 E. Lavaca. In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, attendees can write letters and take a photo with Santa, get creative with seasonal crafts, snack on hot cocoa and cookies, take a ride on the Polar Express and play in the snow. Entertainment will include choir presentations from local schools and carolers from the Southeast Texas Stages cast of “A Christmas Carol.” Throughout the event, the LIT Foundation will hold a gift basket silent auction, each beautifully created by LIT employees, that will benefit student scholarships. Even if you are unable to attend the event, you will be able to bid on the gift baskets online starting on Monday morning, November 30. Entrance and activities are free to the public. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
