The Institute Difference

With an annual enrollment of 8,129 annual unduplicated (credit & non-credit) students, we are a proud member of the Texas State University System. As an institute, we’re different from a typical community college: We play a special role in preparing students for jobs of the future with technical skills and training.

There’s a place for you here with:

  • 28 Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees
  • 4 Academic Transfer Associate (AA/AS) degrees
  • 36 certificates

Diverse programs range from Dental Hygiene and Sonography to Accounting Technology and Computer Information Systems, from Process Operating and Instrumentation to Welding. As a student here you can opt to attend full-time or part-time. You may take classes on campus or online. You can earn credits through Dual Enrollment and Early College High School programs. And advance your career with continuing education.

In other words, students here are preparing for career success and shaping the future economy in their own backyard.

Creating Success, Transforming Lives

Students here get an earlier start on their careers and land better paying jobs after graduation than their peers — earning the highest median salary of all two-year colleges in Texas 10 years after entering school. Students who attend earn on average $15,000 more per year than their peers from other two-year schools. And did you know that 92.8% of Institute students find a career after completing their education?

Backed by a passionate and dedicated faculty, our programs consistently rank among the best in the country. Students have a 94.1% average pass rate in license/certificate programs and a 100% pass rate in 12 of those programs. You know we are committed to student support with financial aid for 69% of Institute students.

And a Lamar Institute of Technology education offers a great return: Every $1 invested in education here returns $4.50 in annual income to you, our student. Every $1 invested in a student at the Institute produces $7.10 in benefits to Texas by filling jobs and boosting the economy in the Golden Triangle area.
