LIT ranked #4 for Best Community Colleges in Texas by Niche.com

BEAUMONT – Adding another accolade to its extensive 2021 awards repertoire, Lamar Institute of Technology was ranked #4 for Best Community Colleges in Texas by Niche.com. The technical school was also named in Niche’s top 100 list for Best Community Colleges nationwide for 2021, placing #70 out of 853 total schools.

“What an honor it is to be included among such an elite group of colleges!” exclaimed LIT President Dr. Lonnie L. Howard. “Besides enjoying double-digit enrollment increases the last five years--in the midst of, and despite, natural disasters and a pandemic—this honor firmly reinforces LIT’s valuable role in the community to train today’s students for tomorrow’s careers.

“But, more than that, this research speaks volumes about the commitment of our staff and faculty here. We believe the American Dream is alive and well at Lamar Institute of Technology,” Dr. Howard said.

According to the Niche website, “rankings are based on rigorous analysis of key statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and…over 140 million reviews and ratings.”

Factored into the system are: Academics, Value, Professors, Campus, Diversity, Student Life, Overall Student Experience, Local Area and Safety. According to reviews of LIT, Niche reported that “89 percent of LIT grads were employed within two years of graduation and 100 percent of students agree that professors put a lot of effort into teaching their classes.”

Niche cited the top 10 most popular majors percentagewise, in descending order, as Instrumentation Technology, Regional Police Academy, Criminal Justice, Computer Information Systems, Regional Fire Academy, Welding Technology, Occupational Safety & Health, Radiologic Technology, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Emergency Medical Services Paramedic.
