BEAUMONT – Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) will be hosting the 2022 Lineman Rodeo on Fri., May 6, at 9 a.m., at the college’s Frank Robinson Jr. Center, 1355 W. Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr., Silsbee.

Nearly 35 lineman students are expected to participate this year. The annual event attracts approximately 200 people, including industry employers, according to LIT’s Utility Line Technician Instructor Leslie Ray Harris.

This year, attending employers include: Entergy, SHECO, JNEC, Newtron, Bright Star, VOLT Power, Chain Electric, S and C Power, Cotton Utility and Daycon.

Utility Line Technicians earned a median annual salary of $68,030 in 2020, according the US Department of Labor’s (DOL) Bureau of Labor Statistics. Linemen, also known as line workers or line installers and repairers, install or repair electrical power systems and telecommunications cables including fiber optics.

LIT’s Utility Line Technician program is 32 weeks long, beginning in August every year, and prepare students to work in the power line industry as apprentice linemen.
