BEAUMONT—Dr. Mary Sizemore, Lamar Institute of Technology’s General Education and Developmental Studies Department Chair, recently was named one of ’40 Under 40’ professionals for 2020, chosen from a record-breaking field of 185 nominations.
Nominees’ work must be based out of Jefferson, Orange or Hardin County and they must be 39 years old or younger. In its eighth year, 40 Under 40 acknowledges recipients as leaders from various businesses within our community.

Dr. Sizemore said she was “surprised, humbled and honored to be chosen” for the honor. The San Antonio native began her career as a teaching assistant at Lamar University (LU), and has worked in higher education for more than 13 years.

Besides being a full-time English/Humanities instructor at LIT and Lamar State College/Orange (LSCO), she was director of College Success and director of Learning Technology at LSCO. Dr. Sizemore was named department chair at LIT in 2019.

She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from LU, and her PhD in Learning Technologies from the University of North Texas.

Dr. Sizemore, who is married with four children, will be celebrated with others at a reception presented by Southeast Texas Young Professionals Organization (SETXYPO), the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce and The Beaumont Enterprise on November 12 at 6 p.m. at Ford Park.
