Lamar Institute of Technology Launches LIT Online: Flexible, Accessible and Career-Focused Education from Anywhere
8/7/2025
Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) announces the launch of LIT Online, a digital learning hub designed to provide students with flexible, high-quality academic pathways that fit their schedules and lifestyles.
With 16 fully online programs and five hybrid programs, LIT Online meets students where they are. From working professionals and parents to recent high school graduates, learners can access LIT’s career-focused degrees and certificates without ever stepping foot on campus.
“We have experienced a 52 percent increase in fully online student enrollment from 1,203 in Fall 2022 to 1,833 in Fall 2024,” said Dr. Sid Valentine, President. “In response to the growing demand for accessible education, particularly among adult learners, LIT Online was a necessary addition to give our students the flexibility they need while maintaining the same academic rigor, support and sense of community as our traditional classrooms.”
LIT Online offers asynchronous and hybrid courses powered by Blackboard, the college’s learning management system. Students benefit from engaging discussion boards, weekly assignments, live or recorded lectures and support services that mirror the on-campus experience.
Hybrid programs offer at least 90 percent online instruction, while still giving students a hands-on aspect and in-person instructor interactions. To ensure that online students never feel isolated, LIT Online students have access to the Virtual Quad — a space for peer interaction, community engagement and digital campus life.
“Similarly to LIT’s on-campus offerings, LIT Online programs are designed to be affordable, workforce-aligned and responsive to Southeast Texas' evolving economic needs,” said Valentine. “The only difference is the increased accessibility that the online modality provides for those who cannot attend during traditional class times.”
To ensure a supportive experience, this initiative will feature centralized access to admissions, registration, advising and student resources. Students can receive virtual support from the Mary & John Gray Library, online tutoring and student engagement services, all provided at no additional tuition cost.
Registration for the Fall 2025 semester is available until August 29. Fall classes begin August 25. Visit lit.edu/lit-online to learn more about LIT Online.
