BEAUMONT – LIT received $41,400 in vocational scholarship funding from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) for the 2022-2023 academic year. The funding was disbursed from a total of $200,000 awarded to Houston area community colleges and technical institutions.

This scholarship program supports non-traditional students in their pursuit of an associate degree or certificate in an approved technical field. Recipients can use the funds towards tuition fees and/or required books, tools and supplies.
Funds will be allocated to LIT students in the following programs: Welding (certificates and AAS degrees), Industrial Mechanics and Computer Drafting Technology.

HLSR president/CEO Chris Boleman said, “As there continues to be a strong demand for vocational skills, we believe it’s important to support these Houston-area colleges as they prepare these students for a career in specialized fields. The rodeo is proud to continue supporting these highly-skilled students as they enroll in these vocational and trade school programs and follow their career passions.”

Since 2015, LIT has received $374,550 from the HLSR Vocational Scholarship Program. HLSR said it has allocated more than $1.6 million in educational funding. In 2022, more than $22 million has been committed to scholarships, junior show exhibitors, educational program grants and graduate assistantships.
