Instruction to Industry Externship Program
Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) recognizes the importance of strengthening connections between K-12 education, technical training, and workforce needs. Through partnerships with local ISDs, including embedded high school instructors, the Instruction to Industry Externship Program provides educators with firsthand exposure to career and technical education pathways that prepare students for high-demand careers.
During the Fall 2026 semester, dual credit embedded high school instructors will participate in an externship hosted by LIT faculty. Participants will be paired with faculty mentors and engage in instructor shadowing, classroom and laboratory observations, hands-on technical demonstrations, and discussions focused on industry-relevant skills, technologies, credentials, and career pathways. The externship will take place during regularly scheduled class time and must receive prior approval from the respective high school instructor’s administration. Externs will participate in a 10-day, on-campus experience at LIT during the fall semester. The 10 externship days will be scheduled based on the extern’s availability to provide flexibility while meeting the requirements of the program.
Each participant will receive a stipend for completing the externship, along with additional support for curriculum development. Educators will use their experiences to enhance classroom instruction and create lessons that connect academic content to technical careers and workforce readiness.
