BEAUMONT – The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has donated $53,000 to be used for scholarships for Lamar Institute of Technology students. This amount is a 31 percent increase from last year and the highest donation made to LIT students from its Vocational Scholarship Program.

The funds were distributed to 11 LIT students enrolled in computer-aided drafting (CAD), heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), industrial mechanics, instrumentation, process operating, truck driving and utility line over their course of study at the Institute as long as required grade qualifications are met.

HLSR has donated $215,500 to LIT for scholarships since 2013. The scholarships can be used for tuition, fees and/or books, tools and supplies for classes.

More than $500 million has been committed to Texas youth and education since 1932. The rodeo has presented nearly 19,000 scholarships since the first one was awarded in 1957. Now, more than 2,300 students are recipients, attending more than 80 different Texas colleges and universities.

The rodeo is a Section 501(c) (3) charity that benefits youth, supports education and facilitates better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentations.

The 2020 HLSR is scheduled for March 3 – March 22, 2020.
