BEAUMONT –Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) has repeated its performance from last year, ranking #4 in the list of the Best Community Colleges in Texas for 2022 by national educational ranking website Niche.com. LIT was the sole representative in the top 10 from Southeast Texas.

“What an amazing honor to receive this ranking again!” LIT president Dr. Lonnie L. Howard said, in response. “This is a tribute, not just to our institution, but to the people who give countless hours of dedication and diligence—our amazing faculty, staff and students. We thank everyone involved.”
According to Niche.com, “Rankings are based on rigorous analysis of key statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and millions of reviews.”

Factoring into the rankings are: Academics, Value, Professors, Campus, Diversity, Student Life, Overall Student Experience, Local Area and Safety. According to student reviews of LIT, Niche reported that “89 percent of LIT grads were employed within two years of graduation,” compared to the national average of 83 percent, and 100 percent of students agree that professors put a concerted effort into teaching their classes.

Niche cited LIT’s top five most popular majors as: Lab Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Police and Criminal Science, Computer Systems Technology and Firefighting.

LIT scored an overall “B” Niche grade, receiving an “A” for Student Life and an “A-“ for Safety. The college placed #68 nationally in Niche’s list out of 845 Best Community Colleges in America, having risen from #70 in 2021, and #83 from 2020.
