Welding Technology prepares the student for employment in the welding field. This includes fab shops, petrochemical plants and pipelines as well as other welding facilities. Welding is used in building and maintaining petrochemical industry units, pipeline, marine vessels, bridge structures, and many other industrial components.

The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Technology Certificate program provides a solid foundation in process-specific production welding technology. The program is designed to develop the necessary entry-level competencies for work in the production welding and metal fabrication industries.

What Will I Learn?

Coursework includes all position “stick” welds on steel plate, mechanical and thermal cutting, fabricating parts from prints and assessing weld quality. Students are instructed in the safe and efficient techniques used in modern welding applications. Students’ skills and knowledge are regularly tested and may receive certifications by the American Welding Society Standards.

This certificate is offered through our Dual Credit Programs only.

What can I do with this Certificate

This certificate is offered through our Dual Credit High School program only. Students who receive this certificate may enter into the Associate of Science in Welding Technology program and receive credit for the certificate classes.
