BEAUMONT – With the approaching Thanksgiving break at Lamar Institute of Technology and the announcement of a recent surge of COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County, LIT is cautioning students and employees to stay vigilant about being safe during and after the holiday. The Institute will close after evening classes on Wednesday, November 25 and will resume on Monday, November 30.

LIT President Dr. Lonnie L. Howard said, “Our primary goal as an institution remains steadfast: to keep you and your loved ones safe, as members of our LIT family.”

The college is reiterating the importance of closely following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations at home, at small holiday gatherings, and upon returning to campus. While students, staff, faculty and visitors are celebrating, the college’s classrooms and buildings will be sterilized and sanitized to accommodate patrons’ safe return. LIT will continue to follow recommended CDC guidelines:

  • Wearing a mask or face covering that covers your mouth and nose.
  • Practicing safe social distancing (at least 6 feet away).
  • Not touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Washing your hands frequently for 20 seconds or longer.
Faculty and staff are urged to lead by example.

Screening procedures will continue upon return to campus from the holiday break. Everyone is still required to wear a mask or face covering on campus. People must be screened daily to enter any LIT building. A color-coded wristband will indicate a safe screening. No additional screening will be necessary to enter any LIT building on that day.

Students and employees should plan on arriving to campus at least 20 minutes before class or work start time to allow for adequate screening. LIT email and social media will provide any further updates.
