BEAUMONT—Lamar Institute of Technology was recently presented a $30,000 check from ExxonMobil to be allocated to Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) dual-enrolled students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-related occupational courses.
 
The funding will support students enrolled at LIT in the following technical programs: Computer Networking and Troubleshooting Technology, Instrumentation Technology and Process Operating Technology. It will allow recipients, regardless of socioeconomic status, to enroll and earn college credits.
 
The Computer Networking and Troubleshooting Technology courses are taught at the Taylor Career Center. Students receive 24 hours of Computer Networking and Troubleshooting Technology courses before high school graduation and will also receive their Computer Support Technology Certificate.
 
Instrumentation Technology and Process Operating Technology courses are taught at the Beaumont Early College High School (ECHS). Students receive 12 hours of Instrumentation Technology courses before high school graduation.
 
Process Operating provides hands-on training in the classroom and laboratory. Students also train at LIT’s three-story distillation unit. They receive 21 hours of Process Operating Technology courses before graduating high school.
