Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) hosted its first college Transfer Fair on April 4 at the LIT Multi-Purpose Center. Eleven colleges from the region set up booths to expose students to options and opportunities after finishing their degree at LIT.

Students received a chance to communicate with representatives from Stephen F. Austin State University, University of Houston Clear Lake, University of Texas Austin, McNeese State University, Grand Canyon University, Louisiana State University of Alexandria, West Texas A&M University, Galveston College, University of Houston Victoria, Houston Baptist University, Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and University of Texas Tyler to learn the transfer process and programs that they offer.

“LIT may not be a student's ending point. Some students are set in pursuing careers in the medical, business, criminal justice or education field, but are taking it one step at a time,” said Karina Salgado-Estrada, LIT Academic Advisor/Recruiter. “With the transfer fair in mind, I wanted to bridge that gap and encourage students to know their options before they graduate from LIT.”

Students were also provided financial aid and scholarship information.

“Many students do not realize they can take the same classes at a technical college or even transfer FAFSA and scholarships,” Estrada said. “For two years at LIT, they can earn their associate degree at an affordable tuition rate, and then they can transfer to a four-year college.”
