Lamar Institute of Technology Career Services is collaborating with industry partners, Quanta Services and ExxonMobil, to host career readiness events throughout the month of April.

“While our students are learning about their fields of interest day-to-day in their courses, we also know an important part of employability is your soft skills and how you present yourself," said Charles Gunner, Manager of Career Services. “With that in mind, we created these events to offer much needed resources and establish a connection between students and the department."

The first event will be a professional headshot session held 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 11 in the Eagles’ Nest Conference Room. Students are encouraged to dress in business casual.

“Your headshot could be someone’s first impression of you, if they are viewing your profile on LinkedIn or if it is attached to your email address,” said Gunner. “I encourage students to dress to impress and take advantage of this opportunity for professional photography offered at no cost.”

From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 19, students can bring a completed resume to the Technology Center Computer Lab Room 205. Staff members will review it and provide feedback on how it can be improved and polished.

“We know how important a resume is during the job search, and is a main selling point for applicants. Our staff members will take the time to meticulously comb through a resume and provide detailed suggestions that will help a student be more marketable,” said Gunner.

To cap off the events, ExxonMobil will host project interviews for students in the Technology Department on April 25 in the Eagles’ Nest Multi-Purpose Room. Students can sign up for a time slot between 9-11 a.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m. by emailing pchavis@lit.edu.
