Beaumont – Lamar Institute of Technology just received another accolade heralding its academic programs—this one from the SR Education Group, a national education research publisher founded in 2004. These rankings are the first-ever online community college rankings categorized by state, according to the group.

LIT was ranked number 23 out of the top 24 named community colleges in Texas. Scores are based on several factors including retention rate, graduation rate and online enrollment percentages data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) or the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The number of online associate degrees offered was culled from school websites and considered in the scoring as well. All ranked schools scored 70% or higher.

“Community colleges offer some of the most affordable degrees in the country,” said SR Education Group SEO Sung Rhee. “With a growing number of these degrees becoming available online, we wanted to let prospective students know about these great, accessible options near them.”

LIT President Lonnie Howard said, “Naturally, we are thrilled with this latest honor, and these numbers just further prove that the American dream can be realized, is within reach and is a reality—whether online or on-campus—right here at LIT!”

According to guidelinetoonlineschools.com, at LIT “students can choose to take some classes online to supplement on-campus courses, or they can enroll in one of the completely virtual degree programs.” They “can complete the following degrees without stepping foot on campus: AAS in Health Information Technology and Associate of Applied Science in Homeland Security. Certificate programs that can be completed online include a Certificate in Health Informatics and a Certificate in Homeland Security.”
