Humanities and English Instructor Rita McClelland is the latest recipient of Lamar Institute of Technology’s Employee of the Month award. The November winner was nominated for going “over and beyond her job responsibilities,” according to President Dr. Lonnie L. Howard.

Despite having stepped down as Developmental Education Program Coordinator over a year ago, she continues to step up anytime she’s asked to help, Howard said. Most recently, McClelland has been helping Beaumont ISD (BISD) Early College High School (ECHS) adjuncts.

“I would like to give a big shout-out to Ms. McClelland,” BISD Principal Melanie Pharis said. “She has been an amazing and patient help to BECHS as we become more proficient within the Blackboard platform.”

McClelland, a member of the General Education and Developmental Studies Department, graduated in 1995 from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and a Master of Arts in 1997. She also has an online instructor certificate.

McClelland said she was humbled by the presentation and, “I am truly surprised about this (award) to be quite honest.”
