BEAUMONT – In lieu of Lamar Institute of Technology’s, 20th Annual ‘A Salute to the Real American Heroes’ in-person event, LIT this year honored area first responders by delivering 1,176 meals to their station or hospital.

Due to an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the area, and to ensure the health and well-being of all, LIT canceled the in-person event, originally scheduled for Thursday, September 9, 2021. Last year the event was not held, also due to the pandemic.
Foundation office staff and several Salute committee members delivered the meals to first responders in Jefferson, Orange and Hardin counties, as well as The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas and CHRISTUS Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth, who have all played a vital role in the fight against the pandemic.

Sponsors included: the Sabine Neches Chiefs’ Association, Joy & Will Crenshaw, Jean & Gus McFaddin, Golden Pass LNG, TotalEnergies, Acadian Ambulance, American Value & Hydrant, Kate & Rod Carroll, ExxonMobil, Motiva Enterprises, Giglio Distributing Company, Beaumont ISD, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, Houseman Development Company, Regina Rogers/Linda & Joe Domino, YMBL, Beaumont Professional Firefigters #399, Jeff Branick, Coastal Welding, Cotton Cargo, DuGood Credit Union, The Echo Group, Ltd., ISTC, Mobiloil Credit Union, Port of Beaumont, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Cajun Ventures.

As of October 15, the Foundation had raised $40,347.57. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the LIT Foundation, providing scholarships to students in the Public Service and Safety department including those majoring in Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Technology, Regional Police and Fire Academies and Homeland Security.
