BEAUMONT –Lamar Institute of Technology moved up two spots from 2021 in Niche.com’s ranking of the Best Community Colleges in America. Last year the school placed #70, and this year, #68. The prestigious college ranking site gave LIT an overall “B” grade.

“With every award and honor, this latest Niche.com ranking only solidifies LIT’s prevalence and purpose, not just within the Southeast Texas community, but, also increasingly, nationally,” said LIT President Dr. Lonnie L. Howard. “These awards reinforce our mission to enhance and promote higher education, while forging the way to tomorrow’s workforce training.”

According to the Niche website, “Lamar Institute of Technology alumni go on to earn a (/an average) starting salary of $30,600.
“This year's rankings have reduced the weight of ACT/SAT scores to reflect a general de-emphasis on test scores in the college admissions process. Ranking is based on rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with millions of reviews from students and alumni.”

Grading factors include: Academics Grade (40 percent); Value Grade (27.5 percent); Professors Grade (7.5 percent); Campus, Diversity, Student Life grades and Student Surveys on Overall Experience (5 percent); and Local Area Grade (2.5 percent).

Niche.com said it connects colleges and schools with students and families by providing “in-depth profiles on every school and college in America, over 140 million reviews and ratings and powerful search and data tools. For schools, school districts and communities, Niche’s platform, data and services help thousands of schools recruit and enroll more best-fit students.”

There is still time to enroll at LIT for Fall 2021 Late Start classes beginning September 23, with tuition reduced 47 percent in two years.
