Dual Enrollment

High school students can earn college credits early through The Institute's Dual Enrollment Program.

Our Dual Enrollment Program allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit at the same time while still enrolled in high school. It’s an opportunity for motivated students to earn college credits early, reducing higher education costs and completing a degree or certificate program in less time—all while gaining marketable job skills.

How Dual Enrollment Works

Dual enrollment students take general education and core curriculum courses offered by Lamar Institute of Technology, taught by qualified Institute or school district faculty. Our wide range of dual enrollment courses includes options from many fields of study, ranging from healthcare sciences to child development, from criminal justice to web design, from HVAC to welding.

You can take dual enrollment courses days or evenings, on campus or at your local high school. Some school districts also develop partnerships with local Workforce Development boards or local businesses to support dual enrollment students. You or your school district provides textbooks and supplies.

High school juniors and seniors in good standing are eligible to register for dual enrollment, while freshmen and sophomore students may enroll on the recommendation of parents and the high school principal. Dual enrollment students must show a 3.0 GPA in high school coursework or other evidence of special qualifications, and must meet Lamar Institute of Technology requirements for admissions, assessment, academic standards and conduct.
