Distance Education
Are you...
- Thinking about taking an online course?
- Interested in working toward your educational or professional goals at anytime from anywhere?
- Unable to take a traditional campus course because of time or travel constraints?
- Wanting the ease of taking a class from home?
- A fairly competent computer user?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions then you may be a candidate for an online course.
Lamar Institute of Technology has credit and non-credit continuing education online courses available.
Several Associate of Applied Science degree and Certificate of Completion program courses are offered in
online format every semester. Hundreds of continuing education online courses are offered daily and monthly.
Look at the various courses that are available and the hardware, software and computer user requirements to see
if online learning is right for you.
Distance learning includes courses in which all or part of the course is offered “at a distance”.
Courses could be online (web-based) courses, web-enhanced, or off-campus at selected locations.
Online courses require Internet access and email and the student can attend the class at anytime from
anywhere. Some online courses, however, may require visits to campus for labs or exams. While the student does
not have to attend a traditional classroom, assignments and other course deadlines apply.
Web-enhanced courses are traditional, face-to-face, on-campus courses in which assignments, syllabi, or
class notes may be provided online. A large number of courses at LIT provide a portion of the course in the
web-enhanced format.
Lamar Institute of Technology also provides courses at other off-campus sites. Currently, credit courses
are offered at the Frank Robinson Center in Silsbee, Silsbee Middle School, Gist Correction Facility and the
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
