Students who have not passed the TAKS test nor received a GED may apply for admission to LIT through the ‘Ability to Benefit’ Policy. Students who apply to LIT via the ‘Ability to Benefit’ Policy must demonstrate they possess sufficient ‘Ability to Benefit’
(ATB) from post-secondary education via their performance in an approved test.
LIT administers an ‘Ability to Benefit’ (ATB) test. The ATB test is the ACT COMPASS® Test. The Department
of Education requires that students take ATB tests in a single testing session. In order to ‘pass’ the test, students must earn a Required Minimum Score for each section of the ATB test. If a student does not earn a Required Minimum Score on the ATB test, they may retest ONCE, 30 days after the first test. Retesting policy requires that students complete the part of the ATB test which the student did not meet the Required Minimum Score
